SIP Calculator — FAQs
What is SIP and how does it work? +
SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) lets you invest a fixed amount monthly in a mutual fund. Each instalment buys units at the current NAV. Over time you benefit from rupee-cost averaging — more units when prices are low, fewer when high — smoothing out market volatility.
What return should I expect from a SIP? +
Equity mutual funds have historically delivered 12–18% CAGR over long periods (10+ years). Debt funds offer 6–9%. The actual return depends on the fund category, market conditions and your investment horizon. Small-cap funds offer higher potential returns but with higher risk and volatility.
What is CAGR vs XIRR for SIP? +
CAGR measures the annual growth rate of a lump-sum investment. For SIP (where you invest monthly), XIRR is more accurate as it accounts for the timing of each instalment. Most mutual fund performance disclosures use XIRR for SIP returns.
